Ziel for Literacy

I am a literacy consultant, educator, and doctoral candidate (I am almost done!)

My work has focused on supporting literacy improvement at the classroom and school levels. Throughout my career, I have worked alongside teachers, administrators, and educational organizations to translate literacy research into practical instructional practices that improve outcomes for students.

As a former literacy coach with the Idaho SMART Reading Project, I supported more than 100 teachers through professional development, instructional coaching, data analysis, and the implementation of evidence-based literacy practices. That experience strengthened my belief that meaningful literacy improvement happens when educators have access to strong research, practical tools, and ongoing support. My most important experience, however, has been as a mother to a wonderful little boy who struggled to learn to read. Supporting him shaped both my personal and professional path. It deepened my understanding of how difficult it can be for families to find the right answers and support for a child who struggles with reading. That experience has influenced my work as an elementary teacher, literacy resource provider, professional development provider, presenter, and curriculum evaluator. At the center of all of these roles is one goal: making a difference in students’ lives.

Through Ziel for Literacy, I partner with schools, parents, and educational organizations to strengthen literacy instruction and help all students become successful readers and writers.

I love supporting families. That is where this work began for me, a family searching for support! 

My work brings together research, practical experience, and a personal understanding of why effective literacy instruction matters so much.
